The Richtersveld is part of a trans-frontier park in Nambia.
From the moment one enters this park, the iconic and arid landscape is flanked by craggy mountains and rugged terrain. It feels as if one has arrived on Mars. Standing here, surrounded by this vast, incredible landscape, the sheer force of its existence slaps you in the face.
Sadly, due to human actions and rapid climate change, the Richtersveld has become the only arid biodiversity hotspot left on earth. Our rich heritage is being lost , and right before our eyes.
Despite these changing circumstances, it is still rich in strange vegetation and the most outlandish plants. But it’s uncertain how long this will remain the case.
I fell in love with this place from the minute I arrived but felt deeply troubled by the thought that our children may never experience its beauty. So, with my camera in hand and filled with a lot of emotion and compassion, I set out to capture and document what was left of the centuries-old Quiver trees and desert plants in their rugged volcanic rock environment.
All photographs in this collection are authentic reflections of my artistic vision of the African landscapes captured by me in the alluring Richtersveld.
