Bushveld Collection

The Bushveld with its iconic trees is one of the most visited places in Southern Africa. People visit this area in the hopes to spot a lion or any of the big five animals and all to often miss the beauty of the bushveld trees with their twisted shapes and ancient secrets.

I visited Kruger National Park for the very first time recently. Although I was fortunate enough to see and enjoy the illusive big five and other wildlife, my attention was drawn to the magnificent trees.

What struck me was the uniqueness of their shapes.

Possibilities

Mapangubwe Hill

The Kingdom of Mapungubwe founded in 1075. It was an important medieval state located at the confluence of the Shashe and Limpopo rivers, south of the Great Zimbabwe. The hill has become an important archaeological site and can still only be reached on foot by a narrow pathway.

The artist places the viewer on this path, surrounded by this incredible landscape, and the sheer force of its existence slaps you in the face. This hill is a UNESCO heritage site rich in cultural history and profound significance.

Motions of Time

Africa's iconic Boabab trees are reminders of the resilience of nature. Their average age is estimated to be around 2000 years. But recently, scientists are puzzled by these trees now dying in droves and they don't know why. Nine out of thirteen of Africas oldest and largest trees have already died in the past decade. It is now being speculated that rising temperatures due to climate change could be the cause.

Majestic Battle

I followed the flight of more than a hundred vultures revelling in the freedom of this place, soaring through the skies to roam at will. This is home to the second largest vulture colony in the world

The looming storm sent the the birds scurrying back to their nests, set high up on the rock faces. As I gazed down into their valley, the sun broke through to reveal the majestic landscape that these endangered creatures call home.
